As some of us are anxiously waiting for the worldwide launch of Metallica’s latest album ‘Death Magnetic’ since 2003’s ‘St Anger’ album, I stumbled upon some online tracks & video in their official website www.metallica.com … do check them out if you are a fan (or hater).<\/p>\n

Found out that they are also releasing special editions of the album that comes with other goodies like DVD, t-shirts and such … all packed in a white coffin! That’s hell cool, ain’t it? The ‘coffin’ comes in sizes like S, M, L and XL too! The bad (damn) news is the price of it. Not sure if it will be locally available, but online prices are over US$100 and just imagine the shipping charges to bring that ‘coffin’ in. Duh! Guess I’ll wait til I’m dead to have my own coffin then. \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n

One of my favourite track from this album is ‘The day that never comes’ and I found [ this video<\/a> ] which is pretty neatly done.<\/p>\n

While waiting for the launch, at the moment, you can listen to some of the tracks on their [ website<\/a> ]<\/p>\n

Their lead singer James Hetfield commented on the album’s title …<\/p>\n

“Death Magnetic, at least the title, to me started out as kind of a tribute to people that have fallen in our business, like Layne Staley and a lot of the people that have died, basically \u2014 rock and roll martyrs of sorts. And then it kind of grew from there, thinking about death\u2026 some people are drawn towards it, and just like a magnet, [and] other people are afraid of it and push away. And the concept that we’re all gonna die sometimes is over-talked about and then a lot of times never talked about \u2014 no one wants to bring it up; it’s the big white elephant in the living room. But we all have to deal with it at some point.”<\/em><\/p>\n

While many fans of Metallica seemed to bitch about their change of style in their last album St Anger, honestly that is my favourite album of theirs so far. I love the raw sound and words in many of those tracks, and perhaps because the lyrics that touched on controlling anger and hate (something that I can definitely relate to). Watched their DVD ‘Some kind of monster’ several times and I’d recommend it to anyone who even is not a fan. It changes the way many confused people (I can think of a whole list of friends, and of course even my dad) who think about such metal\/rock bands are some kind of crazy, trashy and hopeless musicians.<\/p>\n
