Working Out The DSLR

Written by • Jan 29th, 2013 • Category: Lead Story

My DSLR is probably the most neglected camera in my cabinet and thus I told myself that I should give it some workout yesterday when I brought Fitzand out for some outdoor fun. The weather wasn’t too friendly and we were at the Punggol Waterfront pretty early … at about 230pm. Still we had fun and my old trigger happy habit kicked in and I ended up with tons of photos (of Fitzand).

It almost ended up in a disaster because I forgot to insert a SD card into… >> read more

MZ-S Roll 2 From Japan

Written by • Nov 29th, 2012 • Category: Fun with film

This is the 2nd roll I shot with the Pentax MZ-S. It is the 2nd and final roll of color (xpro-ed) film I shot before I switched to using the GR21 with black & white film. I can’t remember exactly what that roll of expired film was but ermm … nevermind.

I suspect that if I had not bought the GR21 and started doing some test shots with it … I might have ended up shooting 5 or more rolls with the MZ-S. It has become my favourite film SLR… >> read more

More Lensbaby Fun In Japan

Written by • Nov 28th, 2012 • Category: Digital stuffs

Although I thought did not fire too many shots with the Lensbaby during this recent trip to Japan, I found quite a handful of images in my SD card. Maybe I was tripping the shutter in a daze!
Here are a few more of them. This first one (below) was taken early one morning when I woke up (a little too) early at 7am. As I usually sleep very late … I should be still in bed … warm and comfy … but instead I chose to jump out of… >> read more

The MZ-S Roll From Tokyo

Written by • Nov 24th, 2012 • Category: Fun with film

Before the ‘arrival’ of the GR21 … I was planning to use only my Pentax MZ-S and a 50mm for all analogue photography. As I didn’t shoot much when I was in Yokohama (except digital ones), my fingers were given a treat when we moved to Tokyo. Many of these were taken in Disneyland as it was the first place we went to after leaving Yokohama.
This is also a roll of expired Neopan 400 that I developed in the bathroom this morning.

I made the right decision to bring… >> read more

Japan In Analogue (Roll 1)

Written by • Nov 22nd, 2012 • Category: Fun with film

Here’s the first roll of film from my vacation last week. I didn’t shoot many rolls as I was too busy entertaining the little one (as usual). If you have seen the video (of him) I posted … you can probably guess how busy I was … being his private videographer. Anyway … here’s a roll of long expired Sensia 400 cross processed. These were shot using my Pentax MZ-S which I lugged along … planning to buy a used lens for it … but ended up not doing so… >> read more

Pentax MZ-S + Solaris 200

Written by • Oct 2nd, 2012 • Category: Fun with film

This test roll took a bit longer than expected to complete. A roll of long expired Solaris 200 was used to test the Pentax MZ-S I bought some weeks ago … paired with an old Pentax F 50mm f1.7 lens. This has been the SLR I’ve long wanted and eventually I gave up on the search for an affordable silver one and settled for a black version.

The autofocus makes it easier for my old eyes but I tend to get too trigger happy when things get too easy. LOL.… >> read more

The X-Pro1 Blackout

Written by • Sep 20th, 2012 • Category: Toys

AB Version? Yeah … AB = All Black!
After giving a steriod shot to my X-Pro1 yesterday … in the form a version 2.0 firmware update from Fujifilm … I’m loving the camera even more. Frankly in the past (before the update), although the autofocusing is a little on the slow side … it wasn’t really a problem to me. Like I said many times before … any camera that can allow me to capture decent images of my boy (who is always moving!) is fast enough. The update seemed… >> read more

Pinhole Day 2012

Written by • Apr 29th, 2012 • Category: Digital stuffs

My last (full) day here in Taipei (well … tomorrow we’ll be flying back at 4pm) and it is World Pinhole Day … and I came prepared with the Lensbaby pinhole for some pinhole action. As expected, I can’t spend too much time shooting pinhole and let my family wait … so here are some shots I took today …

I did have my Diana F+ with me but didn’t use it for shooting pinhole as it will take looooooooong exposures and I don’t have much time to spare.

Luckily… >> read more

Lensbaby In Taiwan (Part I)

Written by • Apr 27th, 2012 • Category: Digital stuffs

After some test run with the X-Pro1 … finally time to whip out my Lensbaby for some big fun! Paired the Composer Pro + Edge 80 optic with my K-01 … I sort of went trigger happy (as usual) and here are 40 of the photos …

I really don’t know how to explain this … but each and every time I touch the Lensbaby … I simply go crazy! It is always big fun using the Lensbaby (any version of it) and I’ve never got bored using them. A… >> read more

On The Streets With Q

Written by • Apr 14th, 2012 • Category: Digital stuffs

Finally Saturday is here and I can give the Pentax Q a test run. Unfortunately … while I was holding it without a wrist strap (duh!), Fitzand knocked it off my hand and now the cute little Q has some scars. Thank God it still functions well.

I did some low light shots to test how the little sensor performs but I’ll post them later. So far I find the low light performance is pretty good despite the tiny sensor but if you wanna know more accurate info about it… >> read more
