Re-loving Black & White

A roll of Neopan 1600 was stuck in my good ol’ Nikon FA for the longest time. After scanning these shots, I realised that some of them were from a long time back … when I was having some pints of icy cold Guinness at an Irish bar during the afternoon (yeah … it felt like a blackout when I stepped outta the pub). I left that roll fermenting in the camera until lately when I bought the pancake Nikon 45mm f2.8P lens and wanted to test drive it. These… >> read more

Harinezumi 2 : Macro Megamix

Written by • Dec 13th, 2009 • Category: Digital stuffs
Came back from a week-long trip to Malaysia last night. Spent 5 days in Kuala Lumpur before heading down to Johor to visit my parents for the next few days. Those days in Kuala Lumpur were crazy. Just too busy eating, drinking and some shopping. I didn’t really shoot much photos except some snapshots of Fitzand and a few random snaps of food that added inches to my (already big) waist. I’ll blog about that later. I’m too darn tired. Didn’t get enough sleep nor rest during the whole week… >> read more

He Came, He Drank, He Bought

I’ve always loved my Digital Buchineko (white version of the Digital Harinezumi) and when the recent Digital Harinezumi 2 was launched (not long after I bought the Buchineko!), I thought I’d be safe and be able to resist the temptation. It was all well until I dropped by ThirtySix (a cool local toy camera store) with a six-pack of beer. Met up with the owner, gulped some cold beer … he let me ‘have a feel’ of the Harinezumi 2. That’s when trouble began! One ‘problem’ I’ve always had with… >> read more

Digital Poison 2

Not too long after the cute Digital Harinezumi was causing lots of drooling within the low-fi/toy camera community … out comes some rumours about a new version of it. Those guys from Four Corners Dark has just released official details about this new Digital Harinezumi 2. It now features sound recording capability as well as a new 3mp sensor. Other details about it are … Increased sensitivity to indoor lighting Close up/macro mode now goes as close as 4cm (Damn! This is tempting!!!) Moriyama black & white style (Argh! I… >> read more

Square Ones

Written by • Oct 28th, 2009 • Category: Digital stuffs
I tried my best to go through all the photos I took during the weekend in Malaysia but somehow I’m too damn tired to do so. Anyway … here are a handful that I’ve managed to upload to my gallery … All these photos (including the cat ones in the earlier entry) has just gone through very minimal post-processing. I usually brighten the images a little, adjust slightly the levels (for some only) and later resize them for web before applying a little sharpening. Pretty impressed with the black &… >> read more

My Mode III

Just arrived back in Singapore after a 3 days trip to Malaysia to visit my parents. Fitzand had a great time with my folks and was very reluctant to come back but thank God he didn’t kick up a fuss in the car on the way back. Phew. I found a new love during this trip there … shooting black & white photos using my GRD3 in the 1:1 format (aka squares). I’ll be creating a new page/gallery just for this and hopefully I’ll be able to fill it up… >> read more

Xeroxed Harinezumi

As I was doing some very short video clip with the Digital Harinezumi just now, couldn’t resist taking some still photos to kick off a small gallery that I’ll start soon to house all my crappy Digital Harinezumi photos. So far I’ve not really been taking much photos with it because the moment I switch it on … I’ll be tempted to play with the video function instead. Hehehe. My battery went dead right after the 5 minutes of shooting. Phew. Glad it decided to kick the bucket only after… >> read more

E-P1 : Black ‘n’ White

Written by • Aug 11th, 2009 • Category: Digital stuffs
Yet to try the Monochrome mode in my E-P1, so I decided to take some random shots during my long weekend in Malaysia to see how it performs. I set the camera to Monochrome mode with red filter and also upped the saturation to +2. Most of these shots were taken at around ISO800. These are not straight-out-of-the-camera shots because I did some level adjustment to them to give them a darker feel. However, I was pretty impressed by the Monochrome mode as well as the pretty nice grains to… >> read more

Demented II

Written by • May 18th, 2009 • Category: Digital stuffs
It was not too long ago, Jimmy (TreesAndShrooms) did this series of self-portraits called ‘Demented’ and I was really inspired by it. I told him how I love the photos and how I would like to do a similar set of photos (yeah … read COPYCAT) and he was kind enough to allow me to do so. So I found some time this evening and with great care … tried very hard to duplicate his great work. What do you think of my version? Hahahaha! Okay … before you start… >> read more
