Test Driving The Sony RX1

Written by • Feb 25th, 2013 • Category: Lead Story
So this is one hell of an expensive camera … one that has caused much excitement (and disappointment about the price) with a full frame sensor and a killer lens. I took one for a short test drive to see how awesome it is and managed to capture a handful of photos today. Street photography is fun with this almost silent camera. The 35mm lens makes it a wonderful tool for street photography. Colors are pretty awesome although I prefer using the ‘neutral’ setting instead of the ‘standard’ one. I’ll… >> read more

More ‘Now what?’ Photos

Written by • Dec 5th, 2012 • Category: Digital stuffs
Following the earlier set of ‘now what?’ photos … here are more of those photos that I took … and then had to try hard to convince myself to dig them out from the SD card, look at them and try pick a few to keep. Yeah … those landscape, cityscape and all those stuffs that somehow I ain’t too interested in photographing (but still guilty of doing so to cure my trigger happy fingers). I miss the cold! 🙁 Not only I can’t convince myself to stick to either… >> read more

GR21 – Test Roll 1

Written by • Nov 24th, 2012 • Category: Fun with film
Loaded a roll of expired Neopan 400 the moment I bought my GR21 in Tokyo last week. As the weather was a little cranky … one day of sun and another day of drizzle … I thought it will be good to be safe and shoot with the ISO400 film to test out the camera. Well … it was a little risk I had to take as I’d only know if the camera works fine (though it looks minty) after I get the rolls developed when I’m back here in… >> read more

RX100 Skinned

Written by • Oct 10th, 2012 • Category: Toys
Probably the only ‘problem’ I find with the Sony DSC-RX100 … the way too slippery matt black surface of the camera body. Maybe it is just my fat clumsy fingers but I sure wished it has some form of rubber/leather skin to make holding it easier. Of course to be safe … I always use a wrist strap with it. I saw some shots (here in Singapore) selling some skins (not sure if they are leather or rubber though) but from the photos I saw (of the cam and skin)… >> read more

Day At The Opera

Written by • Sep 30th, 2012 • Category: Digital stuffs
As part of the Moonfest 2012, the ‘Discovering Chinese Opera’ workshop was meant to introduce the art of Chinese opera to the young ones. It was a parent-child workshop and so after yesterday’s ‘The legend of Nezha’ performance … today I took Fitzand to the Esplanade again for the Chinese opera workshop. It was pretty interesting except for the first half an hour (or more) when the speaker was busy telling us that he is a local TV actor blah blah blah and some pretty weak slides (eg. which ministers/actors… >> read more

Test Driving The RX100

Written by • Sep 30th, 2012 • Category: Digital stuffs
Left without a compact digital camera (no … the Leica X1 doesn’t fit into my pockets!) for some time, I got a little ‘poisoned’ when a good friend was trying to CONvince me to buy his Sony DSC-RX100 as he is moving to *evil grin* the Fujifilm X-Pro1. After reading some many good reviews about this compact camera … pretty much convinced that it performs darn well for a compact camera … I met up with him over beer recently. My first impression of the RX100 … light and so… >> read more

Pentax I-10 Trial Run

Written by • Sep 11th, 2011 • Category: Digital stuffs
After watching a fun Disney Music Festival event late this morning, we spent some hours slacking at Marina Bay Sands and since we had some time to kill, I whipped out the Pentax I-10 that I bought Fitzand recently for some test shots. These are some test shots done using the Pentax I-10. I was pretty impressed with what this little cute sexy point-n-shoot camera can produce! As a matter of fact, after using it for while … I beginning to love it more and feeling reluctant to let Fitzand… >> read more

White Baby For My Baby

Written by • Sep 7th, 2011 • Category: Toys
Picked up a very minty condition Pentax I-10 today at a super great price from a seller who seemed pretty eager to let it go. Finally I can stop worrying whenever Fitzand bugs me for my X-100 (!!!) when I’m out shooting. Yeah … this cute white baby is for my baby big boy. Why not just let him use my LC-A+ you ask? He is one trigger happy fella (like me) and since he learned how to advance the film and take the next (and next and next) shot… >> read more

Doubles, Doubles On The Wall

Written by • Apr 26th, 2011 • Category: Fun with film
Probably the roll that was left fermenting for the longest time in my LC-A+. It was a roll I prepared for a double exposure … probably end of last year and then couldn’t find time to finish shooting it until now. It is pretty fun looking at the photos and go ‘Whoa! That was taken sometime in February this year!’. Here are the messy (I love mess!) photos … This one below was taken at the 2011 Chingay parade rehearsal. Oh man … how time flies! The first exposure in… >> read more

Classica : Test Roll

Written by • Apr 5th, 2011 • Category: Fun with film
A test roll loaded into my Fujifilm Classica somehow took me ages to complete. Finally finished the last frame and sent it to the lab. Well … they are all random snapshots just to test if the camera is working fine. So do I like the Classica? Hmmm … it is basically a very light but not too compact point & shoot camera that produces pretty sharp photos but perhaps I’m spoilt by the Klasse … so much so that I find the Classica feels too plastic. Don’t get me… >> read more
