Some friends asked me about which Lomo/toy camera should they go for if they wanna shoot wide. In the past, I’d tell them to either get the LC-A+ with the wide angle lens attachment or the (way cheaper but needs lots more light and careful usage) Vivitar Ultra Wide & Slim (UWS) (also rebranded as the Superheadz’s Wide Lens Camera).

I don’t remember anything mentioned in the instruction manual about using flash with the LC-A+/LC-Wide instant back and being a curious fat cat … I mounted the Colorsplash flash on the LC-Wide this evening to see how it performs. It is a little tricky mounting the flash with the Instant Back on (I couldn’t remove the back because I have a pack of film it in) but that’s just a small challenge.

I wasn’t planning to get the Instant Kit for the LC-Wide because I’ve not been too satisfied with the photos that the instant back produce when paired with my LC-A+. This must be one of my ‘best travelled’ roll of film. Loaded in my LC-Wide … this 24 exposure roll of Sensia 400 followed me to Malaysia, went on a short shooting trip with me (and cyanwater) to Kampung Buangkok, accompanied me on a beer cum shooting session with Jimmy and then finally to an early dinner at Bottle Tree Village. Another weekend coming to an end and my battery is pretty much flat … with just enough juice to post this entry … then off to bed. Gave the LC-W a test run on the streets recently and as a conclusion … I think being so super wide makes things very challenging. I remember being not too far from the subjects but the photos seem to show that the people (aka subjects) are further away. Good thing is that the wideness of the lens helps capture most of the ‘action’ even though sometimes I just roughly hold the camera up and snap without looking thru the viewfinder.

It has been quite some worrying hours since the night shoot with Jim & Noreen on Saturday night (you can read about it here) as I was really hoping to see some of my own first photos with the LC-W. I quickly fired away the remaining frames yesterday and made a dash to the lab during lunch today.

Lomography as usual … got people all excited about a ‘mystery’ product and finally here it is … the Lomo LC-Wide. Seem that the classic LC-A+ has ‘mutated’ into something a lot different … boasting a newly-developed 17mm Minigon Ultra-Wide Angle lens … allows shooting in full frame, square as well as half frame formats.
