ZOOming In

Written by • Jul 1st, 2012 • Category: Digital stuffs

A trip to the zoo yesterday morning gave me the opportunity to give the Fujifilm X-S1 a test drive. Not one who usually use (or see the need) of a tele lens … I found myself struggling to find subjects to shoot just to test out the camera. The zoo outing was a perfect opportunity to zoom in close to the animals!
The 24-624mm lens on the X-S1 sounds perfect as a camera for everything including a 1mm close super macro mode. Will this be the travel camera I’ve always… >> read more

Jr. Scientist Toy Cam

Written by • May 29th, 2012 • Category: Toys

A friend (Lee Jiing … another photography addict) posted a photo of this plastic camera that comes with the Jr. Scientist magazine on Facebook and being curious (as usual) … I dropped him a message and he told me he found it at Toys R Us while shopping for toys for his kiddos. Toys R Us! Looking very much like another one of those Gakken DIY plastic cameras … I decided to pick one up to take a look … at least get it assembled for fun … and see… >> read more

Lensbaby Edge 80

Written by • Feb 21st, 2012 • Category: Toys

Thanks to those fun people from Lensbaby, a copy of the Edge 80 arrived at my office today. Unfortunately it was close to midnight by the time I had time for myself (and my cameras), so giving this cool lens a proper test run is not quite possible (old folks need sleep too!). Anyway … here are some photos I took of the lens coupled with my K5 …

The Edge 80 Optic is an 80mm f/2.8 flat field of focus optic with a 12-blade adjustable aperture and is perfect… >> read more

SLR Magic Pinhole : Test 1

Written by • Feb 4th, 2012 • Category: Digital stuffs

Tried very hard to take some test shots with the SLR Magic’s Pinhole (paired with my good ol’ E-P1) today when out with my family. Luckily I had some time out in the sun and managed to squeeze out 10 test shots. You might notice some dust (quite a lot of them!) spots on the photos … as I was too lazy to clone out all of them.

You can actually see and compose the scene on the LCD if you are shooting out in the sun. Indoors … you… >> read more

Tuning Up For The New Year

Written by • Jan 21st, 2012 • Category: Digital stuffs

Finally I put the (very little) effort to try shove in a little AF fine tuning adjustment to my K5 paired with 85mm lens. I’ve always had this feeling that it is back/front focusing a little but couldn’t bothered to fine tune it (until today) and after a few minutes of testing and tweaking … eventually a +2 value for the AF fine tuning seems necessary for this solid old lens.

Since I’m sort of ‘grounded’ today … the only ‘target’ I could test the AF fine adjustment on …… >> read more

Composer gone Pro!

Written by • Aug 27th, 2011 • Category: Digital stuffs

Yeah … my Lensbaby Composer has gone pro. Received the Pro version of the Composer from Lensbaby yesterday and it answered all my questions before about how different can it be from the normal version. After drawing a Hello Kitty leaving a big ‘X’ on the polling slip for the Presidential Election this morning, we went out for a great breakfast with some friends and then spent some time doing some shopping … and of course for me … some shooting!

This set of candid photos above is my favourite… >> read more

So Dead

Written by • Jul 22nd, 2011 • Category: Toys

I’m so gonna get this! Ermm … should I? I have my last Double Money voucher worth US$50 and I might just burn it on this new baby …
“Wrapped in Italian red goat leather and decorated with fertility symbols, the Russia Day Lomo LC-A+ features the original Russian Minitar 1 Lens which started the Lomographic movement. Limited to just 2000 units, the Russia Day Lomo LC-A+ comes presented in a velvet box and includes a special LC-A+ camera strap which features a Russia Day emblem (one of 5 designs)… >> read more

LC-Wide & Instant Back

Written by • Jul 14th, 2011 • Category: Fun with film

I wasn’t planning to get the Instant Kit for the LC-Wide because I’ve not been too satisfied with the photos that the instant back produce when paired with my LC-A+. However things got a little different when Jimmy (from ThirtySix) gave me a Instant Kit last weekend and told me to bring along my LC-Wide and the instant back … and some of course some film.

As I didn’t have much idea of what to shoot at the Farmart Center … most of these are super random shots … with… >> read more

Pinwide In The Day

Written by • Apr 10th, 2011 • Category: Digital stuffs

After my recent first tests with the Wanderlust’s Pinwide indoors, finally I got to test it in the bright sun light. The fun thing about using it in the day is that you get to see what you are shooting on the LCD. Yeah … I thought I wouldn’t see a thing since the pinhole is so tiny … but I was wrong. You can actually see (though not 100% clear) what you are shooting. That makes things a bit easier but somehow takes away a bit of the fun… >> read more

Extension Tube For M43

Written by • Mar 31st, 2011 • Category: Toys

From the people who brought us the fun Toy Lens from SLR Magic , here comes another very handy and interesting accessory that Micro 4/3 users will love. This new extension tube from SLR Magic made me go ‘Huh? a lens mount adapter?’ when I first saw it. Unlike those extension tubes I used before (on DSLR), this one is compact and …. hey … why is there a ring (the one closest to the cam body) that you can turn? We’ll look at that later on in this ‘first… >> read more
