A few rounds of espresso today didn’t help much but since it is a public holiday today … I’ll just go into overdrive mode and try get some stuffs done. The Last Camera : Test Roll

Written by • Oct 25th, 2012 • Category: Fun with film
If you have read my earlier blog entry about my attempt to assemble the Last Camera … you will probably know that I almost screwed up when I was working on the lens assembly. I messed up the elements and had to buzz Jimmy (from ThirtySix) to help check which was the 2nd and 3rd lenses in the package. I had to pray real hard when he told me the answer … as I was worried he might be drinking beer when he replied me. 😀 Anyway … I was… >> read more

The Last Camera

Written by • Oct 21st, 2012 • Category: Toys
The Last Camera from Superheadz is the latest DIY camera that got some of us all excited and curious about. Picked up a set from ThirtySix yesterday and after Fitzand went to bed … me and my old eyes started work on trying to assemble the many little parts in the package. Due to the many tiny parts … I just can’t risk trying to assemble it while Fitzand is watching TV … as he will keep coming to tell me stuffs like ‘Daddy … Megatron is dead ya know?’.… >> read more

Stardust Edition – La Sardina

Written by • Oct 13th, 2012 • Category: Others
Not sure if it was a big mistake agreeing to help a friend ‘dress up’ a La Sardina as a present for one of her friends. While I was toying with a few ideas on ‘dressing up’ the camera, she told me that the design has to be elegant. Huh? Elegant? That’s something I will have some problem creating! She told me that she trusts what I can come up with (crazy?!) and so I agreed and went on toying with some ‘elegant’ ideas. Hahaha! Knowing myself … I’ll go… >> read more

The X-Pro1 Blackout

Written by • Sep 20th, 2012 • Category: Toys
AB Version? Yeah … AB = All Black! After giving a steriod shot to my X-Pro1 yesterday … in the form a version 2.0 firmware update from Fujifilm … I’m loving the camera even more. Frankly in the past (before the update), although the autofocusing is a little on the slow side … it wasn’t really a problem to me. Like I said many times before … any camera that can allow me to capture decent images of my boy (who is always moving!) is fast enough. 😀 The update… >> read more

Jr. Scientist Toy Cam

Written by • May 29th, 2012 • Category: Toys
A friend (Lee Jiing … another photography addict) posted a photo of this plastic camera that comes with the Jr. Scientist magazine on Facebook and being curious (as usual) … I dropped him a message and he told me he found it at Toys R Us while shopping for toys for his kiddos. Toys R Us! Looking very much like another one of those Gakken DIY plastic cameras … I decided to pick one up to take a look … at least get it assembled for fun … and see… >> read more

Scanned The Rest

Written by • Nov 25th, 2011 • Category: Fun with film
Finally done scanning the rest of the photos from my 1st roll of DIY developed black & white film (a roll of Neopan 400). You will find most of these are very random shots … ranging from puppies to chickens, from broken cups to wheelbarrows … as I was trying (very) hard to finish the roll during a trip to a relative’s place in Malaysia last weekend. I somehow ‘had to prepare’ a roll to try out DIY developing when I get back here and I am sure glad I… >> read more

I Did It! Yeah!

Written by • Nov 24th, 2011 • Category: Fun with film
Now that the worries are over … I am happy to announce that my first roll of black & white film … developed at home … survived! I couldn’t be happier to see the film strip with images on them! I was dead worried I’ll send the roll (despite being a roll of random test shots) straight into the garbage bin. Woke up a little earlier today … so I have a bit of time to scan some of the photos to see how they turned out … I must… >> read more

Me vs Developing Tank

Written by • Nov 23rd, 2011 • Category: Others
After years of hesitation, I was finally convinced to give DIY film development of black & white film a go. All thanks to Jimmy who even helped me pick up a set of the developing kit when he bought his recently. I rushed over to ThirtySix during lunch to pick up the stuffs and he gave me a 5 minutes crash course on how to go about developing film. Ermm … a super rush training and I left the shop still in a state of confusion. All I remembered was… >> read more

Unmasking Negativity : How?

Written by • Oct 17th, 2011 • Category: Fun with film
‘Unmasking Negativity : The Truth Beneath’ is part of the ‘Impossible Lessons’ exhibition where a handful of people get to showcase and share special ‘tricks’ and experiments done using the Impossible Project films and Spectra cameras. I was pretty lost in the beginning … not knowing what to do and neither had I any experiment in mind. Doing stuffs like double exposures seemed a little too common … so I decided to take a risk (and waste lots of film) and try something different. Perhaps it was just luck that… >> read more
